a scorpion in hiding

just off the road
a mountain child
a meadow king
where the sandpiper sings
this is where I sit
listening to it's song
I'd die of hearing it
is that wrong?

and how your earrings shine
like two mirrors
showing me and mine
and hiding you and yours

but you became the sunlight
caught in the sweet waters
unafraid to blind and show the course
snaking unshyly onwards
and I became a serpent stone
sunk in the shallow break
content to remain and be worn
with others in colors
showing best in that state

Hemlock Lake in the sun
drawing blood and getting stung
